FO – Not so “brainless” socks

It’s Finished Object friday. In today’s episode I show you some socks in a very nice yarn. But the pattern is far away from brainless.

Not so brainless socks - yarn

A year ago at the Zauberwiese-Meeting I bought this yarn. The turquoise and purple caught my eyes at the table full of wool. But it had to wait until I had a plan for this yarn. In October 2013 I started these socks.

Though the pattern is called „brainless“ the pattern itself is not at all brainless. I had to reknit the toe three times. I started the toe as I did it so far in every sock pattern: magic cast-on 12sts and increase stitches every other row until the desired stitch count. Not this sock. This toe has already a pattern. After mastering the toe I worked the foot and the rest of the sock. The pattern is written for every section. The last few sentences of the previous step are repeated in the next part. This confused me again and again. More brain was needed than the name called for :-)

The cable on both sides of the foot that opens at the heel and closes at the beginning of the leg is a very nice detail. I really like this heel construction. My only modification is the leg: I continued the pattern instead of ribbing.

Another Zauberwiese-Meetup attendee named Tina finished some socks with the same yarn way earlier than me. She’s a pretty fast sock knitter and has a good feeling for colours. Here she posted her result. And take a look what else she knitted.

How long has your yarn to wait for until it gets used? Are you a hoarder or do you buy yarn for a specific project?
