Upcoming yarn events 2015

Theoretically we have spring time. Practically I feel like the year just started. And so the yarn and fiber events do. The events are always a wonderland for fiber enthusiasts. You can pet yarns, you see the colours in real, you meet fellow yarnlovers in real and so on.

As a yarnlover based in Switzerland it’s always tricky to get nice, hand dyed yarn. Usually I order it online. And sometimes it’s very surprising to open a parcel with a new colorway you would never expected (because on your screen it looks so different).

For this occasion, fiber events are perfect to suit your taste. This year there are many fiber-related events. Following events I bookmarked already:

  • 10./11. April 2015: Backnanger Wollfest, Backnang, Germany
  • 8.-10. May 2015: Stitching Retreat, Fällanden ZH, Switzerland > (organised by myself)
  • 16./17. May 2015: Berlin Knits, Berlin, Germany
  • 3./4. October 2015: Swiss Wulle Festival, Zug, Switzerland

For more international knitting events, I check also this event list on Knitters Review.

Backnanger Wollfest

Last year I was there for the first time. You can read about my impressions here. German indie dyers show their talents and lots of classes to choose from.

This year I go there as a knitter AND spinner. And so I booked a class with Abby Franquemont about spindle spinning more efficient. We will see how it’s going :-)

Stitching Retreat

In 2015 I organise already the 3rd Stitching Retreat. I’m so looking forward to this. This time we offer several classes about plant dyeing, crochet, knitting and yoga. And if the classes wouldn’t be enough, there’s also a small marketplace where only local dyed wool will be sold: Siidegarte, Gabriela Kos and Anna & Juan.

(There are still some spots left. I would be glad, if you spread the word.)

Berlin Knits

This is a crazy one. Not maybe the event itself. But I saw it on the web and thought why not. Then I asked two friends, if they want to join me. One is already there in Berlin around this time and with the other I plan a four days trip to Berlin.

They offer also classes with lots of stars of the knitting world like Joji Locatelli, Veera Välimäki, Rililie, Asa Tricosa and more.

Swiss Wulle Festival

As the first yarn festival in Switzerland, I would like to support them by joining them. They also offer lots of classes. On their group page on Ravelry they introduce you to some of them.

Therefore, I am practicing restraint, when it comes to online shopping. For soon I go to the events and I look forward to the yarn- and fiber-gathering.

What’s your uber yarn event you never miss? And why?

      Hi Tami,

Great, you’re interested in my retreats. This year it was in spring. Next year I plan it by the end of September (the dates aren’t confirmed yet). So this October won’t be a retreat. But you’re welcome to join us at one of our meetups (like Tuesday nights) here’s the site: http://www.meetup.com/de-DE/ZurichStitching/ . Would be great if you can make it.

      Sabrina
