FO – Henslowe shawl

One of our new knitting group member raved about a pattern she already knitted twice. After asking which pattern, she said it’s the Henslowe pattern. Many of us know the pattern and since a long time it was on my queue. So the KAL in our knitting group was born.

At the first of October we started to cast on. From then on people had time to finish their pieces and post a photo in the Ravelry- Forum to win a price.

Henslowe shawl beth kling full lace

Pattern: Henslowe by Beth Kling
Needle size: 3.5mm
Yarn: Zauberwiese Blue Faced Leicester superwash, colour “Wasserwelten”
Yardage: 105g/ 420m
Finished Measurements: 108cm width x 31cm depth

The construction of the shawl is intriguing. You start at the bottom of the garter stitch section. By adding double yarn-overs at every end, the rows get longer and longer. Then you bind off, pick up the loops from the double yarn-overs and proceed with the lace border.

After reading several comments on the project page, I added more rows to the body (64 instead of 52 loops) and did one more repeat of the lace pattern. But in the end, it didn’t helped at all. The finished shawl came out too small.

If I would knit it again, I would use a bigger needle. Being honest, I’m not sure if I would knit it again. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a perfect project for enhance yours knitting skills with lace. But by the end it’s really boring. I thought after the body it will be okay. Then I did the border and it was not exciting at all. The picot edging is a nice detail but at the very end of the shawl. Too late to enlighten your knitting experience.

Oh well, it might become a present for someone…
