As a reaction to the FO from last week, I wanted a big shawl with bright colours. A more me-like shawl :-) I’ve found this gorgeous yarn at the Zauberwiese-meeting and felt immediately in love with it. And I knew what I want to knit with.
To show off the lovely colours I’ve chosen a simple stockinette triangle shawl. To adjust the shawl to the length of the yarn I’ve knitted the shawl top down. I didn’t want to have any leftovers of that beautiful yarn. But only stockinette it’s of course too boring. So I’ve put some stars on the rainbow.
I’ve learned this stitch pattern at Vogue Knitting Live in Chicago. “2 into 2” is a simple stitch and has a great effect. You decrease two stitches and in the same stitch, you increase two stitches.
Row 1 (RS): You knit 2 stitches together (k2tog), but leave the two stitches on the left needle. Then you knit these 2 sts through the back loop together (k2tbltog) and slip it off the left needle. I’ve found here a video to show it to you better.
Row 2 (WS): Purl all stitches.
Row 3 (RS): K1, 2 into 2 sts. (You shift the stitch pattern about one stitch).
Row 4 (WS): As row 2.
Of course, you can do it with more stitches. 3 into 3, 4 into 4 and so on. The more stitches you de- and increase the produced fabric gets denser.
I ripped the shawl three times as I ended up with not enough yarn because the stars pattern takes more yarn than plain stockinette stitches. But now I’m satisfied and happy with it. Tuesday morning I was even too late for work just because I had to block it after finished it Monday night. I’m addicted, I know…

Beautifully knit, using stockinette to let the color do its thing was definitely a good call.

Thank you. I wanted a simple pattern so that the color comes to bear. So I chose plain stockinette, because I don’t like garter stitch :-)

It was quite unfamiliar to knit with such a colorful yarn, but I love the result.

Lovely shawl, great job! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. At first I was unsure if I should really buy such a skein and what to do with them, but now I’m just happy.

Absolutely stunning shawl. I love the yarn, and I love your knitting.

Where can I find the pattern for this shawl? Thanks very much.

Hi Cathy, I’m glad you like the shawl. I didn’t follow any pattern. I took the construction of a triangular shawl and knitted the star pattern.
