In the surprise bag of Zauberwiese I’ve ordered were three skeins of different yarn qualities, all in the color theme of water worlds. One of those skeins called “Leben am Meer” (living at the sea) is a blend of 50% of silk and 50% wool. With a yardage of about 400 meters it’s perfect for a shawl.
But what should I knit with silk? I’ve wanted to show the yarn and the colors. So it has to be a simple pattern stitch to show it off. I came up with the idea of a lace mesh pattern.
Pattern: Hibiscus Shawl by Laura Chau
Needle size: 4mm
Yarn used: 400m
Finishes measurements: 47x155cm
The shawl has a triangle shape. You start in the center of the top and work your way down as the rows get longer and longer. On one side Laura designed a Hibiscus flower. That makes the shawl more interesting.
To knit with this yarn is a dream. It feels so soft and knits up nicely. The colors are a bit brighter than on the photos.
My intuition said I should start the border earlier than suggested as I maybe ran out of yarn. And see, I’ve been right. That’s the leftover of the yarn.

Thank you. Simple but interesting pattern.

That’s a well-played game of yarn chicken! Lovely shawl. The colours make me think of an underwater kelp forest in sunlight :)
